Standards In Action IV—Self Reflection Development Process

What: Completion of SIA contract and qualification for $50 stipend

Steps:
· Read Evidence of Effective Teaching and Learning Practices (attached).

· Download SIA Unit IV in Standards in Action Manual from Adult Education Content Standards Warehouse , http://www.adultedcontentstandards.ed.gov/ and read Content Standards, 4-3 through 4-23 (Note: Only Appendix A Video and Appendix A Self will be completed.)

· From Adult Education Content Standards Warehouse website, click on Standards in Actions, Observing SIA Videos, Observing Standards In Action Math Classroom Lesson.

· View the lesson video, completing Appendix A Video document with your observations. Reference 4-12 for explanation of Evident and Not Fully Evident.

· Submit completed Appendix A Video to Margaret Bowles by September 29 2011.

· Teach a math lesson and use Appendix A Self document to guide self reflection on the lesson just taught.

· Submit completed Appendix A Self to Margaret Bowles by September 29, 2011.

· The following questions are on the Blog; submit responses to the following questions by September 29, 2011.

Reflect on the effectiveness of the activities. What worked well and what could be improved?
How has participating in Observing Standards-in-Action changed your thinking about the state standards?
How will you use these methods and materials to improve your teaching practice and students’ learning?
Have you identified a specific need—through working with the effective teaching and learning practices—that could be addressed by follow-up professional development? Could one of the other SIA innovations meet your identified needs ?
